Right now I'm waiting for my sheets to get done drying so I can make my bed and go to sleep. A nice but subdued Sunday as I am hung over from wine last night with friends. We made seafood paella and it was incredible, but I don't feel so good today and didn't get much done. I made it to my son's baseball game and came back and laid on the couch after that, watching football. I'm glad I went to his game as he was the defensive star, catching two pop-ups, including one at shortstop that he chased behind him and stabbed at, catching it without quite knowing what he did. I missed a line drive foul right at me in the bleachers and felt like a little kid again.
Finished a book this week, Alan Richman's Fork It Over, which collects the best of his food writing from GQ (with a couple pieces from other publications). He writes with authority about sophisticated menus and wine but always with humor, and a soft spot for humble food that reminds him of his New York youth. Since he writes for a monthly magazine, the pieces aren't just straightforward restaurant reviews but thematic: working for a night as a sommelier, eating black truffles in France, trying the most acclaimed vegetarian restaurants. He also has helpful advice so you don't eat sushi or order wine like a rube.
