Raking Back Sunday

I'm looking ahead to an afternoon and evening of cleaning, laundry folding and some take-home work, but that's okay. Nice weekend, sun's out and peeking in on my desk (strewn with said work, glasses, green tea gum, books, The Prisoner box set, Febreze, cd's. Oh, and I have to fit in a workout today or I'll be mad at myself.

Got a Match.com "wink" from someone who seems nice, attractive and substantial, so I tried to reply with something good. It's weird, these emails to prospective mates end up like a combination resume/essay/mission statement/short story/comedy routine. I actually labor over just the title of the email.

Received the Danger: Diabolik framed poster, and it's cool but smaller than I expected, and the frame is super cheap, with no hard backing to it. Read a chunk of Rutu Modan's Exit Wounds and I'm digging it. Want to read the rest tonight if I can fit it in. I meant to read more at Starbucks but ended up finishing the latest issue of Filter instead, which had good interviews with Leonard Cohen, Jeff Tweedy and others. This artfilm about Kurt Cobain, About A Son, sounds incredible. What a great idea to just use his voice without his face and music, set against shots of Aberdeen, Olympia and Seattle.

Got around to listening to one of the many discs I've downleaded, The Rakes' Ten New Messages, which is very good, sharp, clean indie rock. Not sure I can say much more about it, but it's good. Let's give it a B+. Also liking The Twang's Love It When I Feel Like This; they're the latest hot Brit band for those who like Arctic Monkeys and the like.

Looks like the McSweeney's fund drive was successful and they're still rolling on, which is cool.
