Prisoner
It's strange; I just realized today that I'd missed the Lost season finale, so I'm downloading now. I also haven't gotten around to watching the Heroes finale, either, and neither omissions are knocks on the respective shows, both of which I like a lot. Stuff just comes up, you know?
Larry Young wrote me tonight, which was a nice surprise. I don't correspond with him much but he happened on the blog and apparently enjoyed the gym/security guard story. A small followup to that today--I was all ready in my gym clothes, parked and just finishing an EW article, when a really attractive, fit couple walked to the gym, and it really took all the wind out of my sales. Not that I'm hideous...I dunno what happened, but I just didn't want to go in after them. So tonight was a waste as far as exercise. Plus I was still full from dinner when I tried to do situps and didn't get that many in. Maybe I'll get up to 100 or something before bed.
Had a somewhat respectful argument with a female colleague about some books she liked that I didn't, and vice-versa, as well as Mark Waid's comment in a recent CBR interview that "fun is a death word in comics these days," or words to that effect, which I saw as mainly an excuse creators and fans make when their lightweight comic of choice fails in the marketplace. The anti-fun bias--can you imagine trying to explain that to friends who don't read comics? I haven't read the new Brave & The Bold, and have nothing against Waid or Perez or the idea--I may very well pick up the trade--but even so, it's a cinch the book doesn't last more than a couple years, and as enjoyable as it may be, I find it hard to believe that anyone really is all that interested in even the best team-up between Supergirl and Lobo, you know? What could we possibly miss? And I don't mean miss as in something important, but just how good a story could it be? Waid is a smart guy, but unfortunately he works in the Marvel/DC axis where he's surrounded by retards who may actually think of "fun comic" in pejorative terms. I'll have more to write on this soon, as well as reviews of Mouse Guard and some other okay stuff.
