What's New?

Lessee...I'm tired and ready for a little reading and bed, and looking forward to the freshly washed sheets. Bonus--I can sleep on either side of the bed. Wait, that's not a bonus at all. Dammit.

Had lunch with the girl I love today, which was 97% nice but hey, we're not together, so it's bittersweet, too. I do still enjoy her company, and it wasn't a heartrenching thing or anything, just a little difficult at times because I have to be careful not to flirt and all that.

The other girl at work I stopped pursuing. She is still pretty friendly with me but not to the extent of like asking me to do something. It would pretty much take that to get me to try again.

Work kinda sucks. Well, it's not too bad, but there was just some nonsense today due to my being out half a day on Thursday and not informing everyone on my team. It's a legitimate error on my part, but still, I think some people overreacted. *Just wrote something mean about one of them but erased it.*

Finally finished the movie Half Nelson with Ryan Gosling. I'd put it off for over a month after watching 20 minutes of it because it's pretty grim stuff about a great, inspirational young teacher who's also in the sway of drugs, and his special pupil, who has a future if she can avoid the temptations of her drug-dealing family member. It's a tough one, but I really admired the truth of it and how things weren't really resolved by the end. It's all about little moments and great, naturalistic acting choices that don't direct the viewer in one certain way. Gosling is tremendous.

Also finished the one graphic novel I've been working on for a couple weeks, John Porcellino's King-Cat Classix. It's terrific. I owe it a review. I began a "real" novel as well, Paul Auster's The Brooklyn Follies, and so far it's really good. He's one of my favorite authors.

This weekend my time with the kids is broken up a little weird, so I'm without them Saturday afternoon to Sunday night, but then have them Monday, not that I have any Memorial Day plans. I went to the doctor on Thursday (reason for half day, though I left a little early to see my son sing at school; strangely, 1st and 2nd graders do well with Tom Petty's "Runnin' Down a Dream") and so I'm committed to really trying to get regular with exercise and losing weight, as I seem to add a couple pounds a year.
