So the project I mentioned last weekend, where I was writing for something going from one media to another, is/was ComicFoundry.com launching a black and white magazine. I had turned in one short piece I was assigned about Tintin, and am awaiting answers back on an interview I'm conducting, when apparently Diamond has pulled the plug, saying that a b&w mag about comics won't sell in this marketplace. It's weird, because Diamond will happily distribute 100 subpar indie efforts no one will read, but there are few comics magazines, so why not give it a shot? I mean, by this guy's criteria, who's new to the post, he wouldn't have published The Comics Journal, which only added partial color a year ago, so I guess there's nothing to learn from the 25 plus years that mag has stayed around. Well, the fight's not over. When I have info on people to write to, I'll pass it on.To be honest, this is something I didn't expect at all, because I thought once you made your pitch to Diamond and they accepted it, you were in, but apparently they can change their mind at the last minute. The finished first issue was due to be turned in in a couple weeks. Anyway, onward and upward.
