Quick Stuff

Sunday was a really crushing defeat for us San Diegans, as the Chargers played probably their worst game to the Patriots. Lots of stupid mistakes. Maybe the only good to come out of it is we now seem to have a legitimate rivalry going with them, due to their pretty classless behavior after the game. Whatever. It happens.

I'm kind of catching up on a few tpbs. Almost done with Albion, which is underwhelming.

Adopted a cat last Saturday. This is really different for me--I never had one before and considered myself more a dog person, but the kids really wanted one and I knew there just isn't a yard for a dog. I waited until we moved into the condo, and then waited until after the holidays, as I feared the cat would climb the Xmas tree or something. But we got a little 8 month old black female named Oreo (not sure why--there's no white on her) with half a tail due to some early accident, I guess. She's small, a good size for young kids, and she's a lap cat and I haven't seen her angry or anything. Very sweet. The name is fine to keep. I of course unloaded lots of money on all the stuff you need for cats, plus stuff you don't necessarily need but it's nice, like a cat condo and a Litter Locker (like a diaper genie for cats). She sleeps on my bed and everything. I'm pretty happy about it. It turned me into an instant pussy, with baby talk and all that, but what the hell.

Also bought the Dyson vacuum designed for pet hair. It's awesome. There had been a cat living in the condo before me, and it picked up tons of cat hair.

I've watched various things lately. Lessee--Jackass 2 is amazing. I never saw the first nor the show but really was impressed by most of this one. Some really clever stunts/pranks. I rewatched an MST movie, Manos: The Hands of Fate, but it wasn't as good as I remembered. That is, the comments from Joel and the 'bots were still really funny but the movie was so dreadful it was hard to endure. I'm just beginning the fourth season of The Sopranos and finishing Season 3 of Buffy. Oddly, the purported Season 3, Disc 5 I got from Netflix is clearly not right. I think it's Season 5, Disc 3. Quite a change in that period of time! I watched the first episode on the disc and stopped, as I really want to see how things get to that point before going on.

24 is still good. As usual, some plot holes, some cheesy dialogue, but plenty of good suspense and surprises. American Idol's debut was solid as well. Usual deluded wannabe's and real talents. It's a goofy show, and Simon was needlessly cruel to one girl (and guest judge Jewel kind of bitchy, too) but I think it's actually a useful show for writers to watch. It's easy to forget that bizarre personality type who thinks they're really good at something despite all evidence to the contrary, and it's something you can do a lot with.

Got an offer to pitch a short story or two to a new anthology, which was nice to see. I may have an idea already; we'll see.

Almost done with all the DUI stuff. Went to the last self-help meeting last night, which was fucking freezing, though I guess I could take solace that I was definitely the best adjusted of anyone there. Not that there's not work to do, but these were some pretty hardcore people in this group. It's cool, though--there's a kind of warmth there I like. The only drawback was that based on some things one of the guys was saying, I now think I have ADHD! Maybe we all do to some degree. Where was I?
