I Need To Be Cleaned And Disciplined

Hi. I haven't blogged in at least a month, nor have I read any comics in that time, aside from Lost Girls. So, there's so much catching up to do that it's hard to know where to start. Rather than my usual drone, let's go with some quick bullets:

I moved. Exactly 2 years after moving out and separating/divorcing, I bought my own condo, 3 bed/3 bath and an office. Not bad. Half the garage is full of boxes still, partly from my own laziness and busyness and partly because I want to have some rooms painted and furnished (the office) before I open up a bunch of books. I concentrated on my kids' rooms first. They had to share in my apartment, so now that they each have a room I can give them a bit more identity, which is fun. My daughter is pink Princess stuff, which is what she wanted, what can I say? It's cute. My son has a cool surf thing going, though no board as yet. This weekend was frustrating as I can't seem to get the cams on his dresser to hold. All the other furniture was from the same maker and worked fine. Pisses me off.

I was going to read Running With Scissors but will probably just check out the movie.

I now have DVR and it's a blessing and curse, as I'm watching a lot of TV right now.

I did come up with a good story idea this week, though.

Of the new shows, I watched the second episode of 30 Rock and it's so-so. I will not be continuing with it, I don't think. Some laughs but too sitcom conventional.

My ex-wife highly recommends The Nine, but I don't really respect her opinion on any form of media.

I watched the season finale of Flavor of Love, having never watched the show before, and it was good--a trashy Bachelor. I also got teary-eyed over part of Ice-T's Rap School but I'm blaming exhaustion and a troubled childhood more than it being a particularly good show. It's pretty good, though.

Grey's Anatomy still sucks. Very good actors stuck in totally contrived, earnest, cheap, self-satisfied writing. I really hate how the doctor characters all make important decisions based on medical cases that echo the decisions they need to make.

The new Beck is very good. Not any real classic songs, but a disc where all the songs hang together well. I've also been getting into more current hip-hop lately and like Lupe Fiasco a lot, and the new Too $hort is reliably fun.

I'm reading some National Lampoon books, the ones from the '70s, and they're awesome. The Onion, as good as it is, owes a great debt to the NatLamp Sunday Newspaper Parody, which did everything The Onion does decades earlier, plus it has certain callbacks and payoffs The Onion format can't provide. It's also great to see guys like Russ Heath illustrate lesbian bondage comics or a fake book on Military Buses of WWII in the NatLamp Encyclopedia of Humor. Even Trina Robbins has a strip involving cocaine.

The title of this post comes from a text message I received from a friend while driving home Friday. It was very nice, however no cleaning was performed nor discipline meted out this weekend.

The Nine is a decent show. Much better than most of the new shows this season. Of the new shows, though, I think my favorite is Heroes.

Chris, you should check out Dexter. Probably my favorite new show right now.
