Work

Tried to take a much-needed nap this afternoon but was unable. I did, however, have some pad thai and wrote three pages of Irregular Joe #5, so I'm now exactly halfway done with the issue. I also located the source of a very fishy smell in the apartment. Some oil from the red snapper I pan-fried last week had spilled into the burner's aluminum drip guard or whatever it's called. Horrendous stench.

Paul O'Brien is overhauling the direction of his site, which is clearly in answer to his frustration over the drudgery of having to reviewing issue after issue of so many mediocre books that change little from month to month. Now he's going to just review self-contained stories and complete story-arcs, except when he reviews first issues or when he reviews issues in extended capsule format, so...hmm, doesn't sound drastically different, but it's a start. And I don't mention this because I want him to do anything he doesn't want to do at all. He's a good writer and I think I and many of the people who have engaged in the discussion about his boredom with superhero comics just want him to be satisfied and engaged with comics, not just because of ego and wanting to justify my own interest in comics, but because who wants a talented writer to not enjoy his writing?

Great post by Christopher Butcher at his blog. It's perfect, no need to say anything else about it, other than that Christopher is really someone who "pushes comix forward" and in fact was one of the people invited to write for Comic Book Galaxy, but who declined for his own perfectly valid, acceptable reasons.

So if Chuck Austen were still writing X-Men, Paul would cover it only every four issues instead of every issue.

Nope, doesn't sound drastically different. I suppose it is a start, but, I'm enjoying Randy Lander's change of direction a great deal more than I anticipate enjoying Paul's. I hope to be pleasantly surprised.
