Black Ark Anna

I just haven't had a lot to post lately, though hopefully the payoff is that I'm writing pretty lengthy columns and working pretty steadily on the comics. Wrote two pages of IRREGULAR JOE, so I think there's seven left. It took a while; had to rewrite an earlier page to make something work. Lots of captions of a conversation going on while the reader sees other stuff happening, and some of it connects to the captions and some doesn't. A very raw attempt at something Alan Moore does with ease, but hey, gotta start somewhere.

Read some good stuff this weekend: TOP 10: THE 49ERS really is one of the best GNs of the year, as most folks are saying. Wonderful. I also read DENNIS THE MENACE VOL. 1, which I'll review for this week (possibly 49ers, too; we'll see); some very funny and well-drawn gags in this thick book. Most of it's amusing, a few laugh-out-loud. I was a bit surprised just how rotten Dennis is. Ketcham described him as innocent, but he's really malicious a lot of the time. Also began the new Tyler Page series, but stopped to finally read the final STYLISH VITTLES volume. I'm sure I'll review it as well.

Saw MARCH OF THE PENGUINS with the kids, which is great. I love nature stuff anyway but it's hard to get them interested when it's on TV. They were into it, sometimes sad when penguin eggs or chicks didn't make it. WE talked about it extensively, circle of life stuff. I finally saw WEDDING CRASHERS myself, and it was very funny; surely a dvd purchase (PENGUINS, too, probably). As good as Will Ferrell is in his cameo, though, I think someone not so associated with Vaughn and Wilson already might have been better. Very good female leads in this, too, both did great.

Listening to some freaky Lee Perry/Mad Professor disc right now.
