Working for the Weekend

One, maybe two more days of hard work at the day job. Once 7/1 hits, we should be okay, though I'll probably have plenty of other things to do, depending on how many WIDGETS we sell. Okay, I don't sell widgets, but I've seen it happen before when someone's come out of the woodwork to screw with a buddy's job based solely on Internet feudin', so I don't really want to say what I do. Regardless, it's been a draining couple weeks. Worked 7:30-6:00 today, including straight through lunch. Not too difficult, but after 5:00 the A/C goes off, so I was starting to sweat. Nice to get home during daylight hours, though.

Watched the Padres win, checked a few blogs, and wrote three pages of Irregular Joe #4. Just made myself. I'll try to get at least another page tomorrow, but Job 1 is to finish this week's Breakdowns column, which is about half-done.

Interesting interview with Daniel Clowes on NPR about ICE HAVEN. Not the best work Terry Gross has ever done, though: "Are there really such things as comic book critics?" I'm not personally offended, believe me, but it just seems like either arrogance or ignorance. I mean, she's interviewing a guy as a legitimate author, but can hardly believe there would be critics focused on his specific medium/genre of literature. It's just kind of weird. Nice to hear Clowes' voice for the first time; he didn't have anything very startling to say, but it was good.

Made a great-tasting sandwich: Take a chuck roast, put it in a crock pot and cover with a full jar of Ass Kickin' Whiskey Peppercorn Salsa and one bouillon cube. I picked the salsa up for only $3.99, but yeah, it's usually about $7-8. Get a gift basket or something with the other flavors like original or Peach Rum. They're all good. Anyway, I cooked the beef last night for five hours on High, then let it go all night (another six hours or so) on Low. Refrigerated it and heated it up tonight, served on toasted focaccia rolls. It's just amazing how tender beef gets when you cook it that long, how the chemical bonds in the meat just break down and the salsa infuses it with flavor. Next time I do this, I might add a bit more kick, but it really was good.

This week's DCBS order arrived today, including vol. 2 of THE INCAL and BLACK PANTHER VOL. 1 by Jack Kirby. Just a couple floppies represented actual "new" comics, not that there aren't many on order.
