Trojan Hearse

Gretchen is apparently in Aruba now--may hear from her if she calls tomorrow. This is I think the only weekend I'll have the kids the entire time, which has its good and bad points. I always enjoy having them, but I do appreciate that Sunday to relax by myself, too. They had fun with the neighbors outside in front of the apartments--the upstairs neighbor and her son, whom I'd never met before, and the next door neighbor Diana's grand-neice or something, Elise, the daughter of Shannon, with whom I had the one encounter. Just kicked a ball around, blew bubbles, had fun. Down the street at the park was some sort of Jazz in the Park thing that goes on during the summer, so maybe we'll check that out next time. It was really packed, and I'm not sure I even have a blanket to put on the grass.

Turns out Shannon is now in rehab for six months. So my guess that I was the nearest enabler was true. I don't feel guilty about it; I had no way of knowing, and at least she's somewhere getting help. I'm not sure what substance she's in for, actually, though I assume alcohol is one of them.

Damn Friday traffic made me too late to catch Sonia at preschool, but Trevor actually asked her about dinner beforehand. According to him, she said maybe another time, and that Samantha was going to her dad's that night, anyway. So either it's fine, or it backfired, can't tell yet. I'm not worried; just need to actually talk to her. I also asked the young, part-time preschool teacher, Mylie, about the teacher I like, Rachelle, and she doesn't know if she has a boyfriend but will try to find out. I did talk to Rachelle for a few minutes. It's impossible to tell if she's interested, because teachers are pretty nice to everyone, but I tend to think I have a moderately good shot. They're both very different looking women, but both seem pretty warm and friendly, which is what I need. No ice princesses for me.
