Dig Me Out

Very late and no time to say much right now, but I've been so slack on the blog lately I had to do SOMETHING. I'll put up the column commentary this weekend, maybe tomorrow. Kids all day and then my son's preschool teacher asked me to join her and her friends at some martini bar tomorrow night, so...that's interesting. I'm a bit leery of the fact she teaches Sunday school and has a crucifix tat on one shoulder blade, but what the hell? A couple drinks and a lot of pressure to be charming for strangers. Make that four drinks. And one condom. Or three drinks and two condoms. Hard to say. Just kidding; I'm sure it will be a fun but chaste evening.

Watched the bonus disc of DiG!, which has some nice Where Are They Now? bits with the Dandy's and former BJM members--nice that Joel Gion and Matt Hollywood are happy, and Zia McCabe seemed like a very cool mom. Even Peter from the Dandy's was nice. And somehow Ondi Timoner, the director, went from this sort of severe chick to a pretty beautiful woman. The bonus live performances of both the BJM and Dandy's were good, especially where they played together and Anton was so fired up. Basically, everyone grew up.

Interestingly, on the Pop Culture Bored, the brilliant Abhay posted his own review/analysis of the film, and ranted in his wonderful way about the BJM and Anton so that it got under my skin and caused me to reply. It was a nice little debate among friends.

Very very behind on comics. All I've read in a week is the LOSERS third tpb, TRIFECTA, which gets off to a rocky start with fill-in artists and flat writing and then kicks in with the return of Jock and a surprisingly effective reveal of just why these guys are in the state they're in now. Finally, at least one of the characters becomes more than just an accent or hairstyle.

The next Breakdowns on www.comicbookgalaxy.com is due on 6/6. I've got deadlines now!

Time for sleepum.
