Round the Bend

Man, tough couple of days on the personal front. Anyway, I did snap out of it and intend to stay that way. Wrote Page Uno of Superunknown #2, just to get something accomplished. I've also had less time to work Monday and Tuesday night due to buying my son Trevor's birthday presents--Mom is in charge of the party. So that's all ready for Thursday and tomorrow should--SHOULD--be good for 2-3 pages.

I got some good feedback from a friend on Superunknown #1--she's not a comics reader at all. She liked it but made some good points about stuff to make a little clearer, and also pointed out a factual error that I definitely need to correct. Hey, I thought it was Zsa-Zsa in Green Acres, not Eva! Just kidding; that wasn't it.

Just now read Brubaker's/Epting's first Captain America--terrific! Will read the second tomorrow. Nice shock ending, and Epting is doing very good work, helped much by D'Armata's coloring. His faces are a little blah, but other than that, wonderful, especially the Skull. I also read Alan Moore's first WildC.A.T.s issue last night (I have a lot downloaded, even though I have the original issues) and it held up well, despite Travis Charest being at that time still in Jim Lee's shadow, drawing women with impossible long legs, high butts and flat stomachs, and this annoying Liefeldesque outline of boots with lines on them, instead of drawing actual boots. Tao is in this issue, being defined by Moore, and so far it doesn't seem a huge leap to see how he would end up as the bad guy in Sleeper. The first Grimjack trade is good, too, though a somewhat uneven warmup at this point. The second one should be a lot more confident and visually dazzling, I expect. The first issue of the new miniseries, Killer Instinct, however, is right on the money--good work all around. Ostrander and Truman (and technology) have come so far since those old days that it's almost like the character deserved a second chance with them, a refurbishment and cruise around town.

Going to bed now. I'm sure lack of sleep is a contributor to my mood swings.
