Nonwork Journal 1/31

I pretty much took the weekend off, spending time with the kids, my dad (who left) and reading a few comics. I'm pretty much caught up on all of EX MACHINA and it really is excellent, like a less pompous West Wing in its wit and nobility. Vaughan has really come up with a great new spin on heroism, and Tony Harris is magical, vaulting right back up near my favorites after what I felt was several years going down the wrong road (the OBERGEIST style). Good stuff.

Caught up on some email at my wife's house and forwarded a bunch of old docs here, so look for a much bigger collection of reviews in the near future, plus some other amusing odds and ends. I had fun this evening reading and annotating a five page script I did in 2003 called Zombie Ninja Monkey, illustrated by Abhay Khosla, whom you may remember as "AK" from the Title Bout column at www.moviepoopshoot.com. He's since worked with Sal Cipriano on some stuff. Look for this pretty soon--just need to find the art, as I mistakenly sent a dumb character sketch I had done for Abhay, not his actual art. If I don't have it, I'll just have to find a copy of the zine in one of my many longboxes.
